Father’s Day is a special time to honor fathers, grandfathers, spiritual fathers, and men who have stepped into the lives of others with love, strength, sacrifice, and faithfulness. But for many people, Father’s Day can also bring mixed emotions. Some had great fathers. Some had absent fathers. Some carry pain from the past. Some fathers feel like they have fallen short.
That is why this message points us beyond earthly fathers and toward our perfect Heavenly Father.
In Joshua 24, Joshua gathers the people of Israel and calls them to make a decision. They had seen the faithfulness of God, but now they had to choose whom they would serve.
Joshua makes a bold declaration:
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
This was not just a nice statement for a wall decoration. It was a spiritual commitment. Joshua was saying, “No matter what everyone else does, my house will belong to God.”
Our homes still need that same kind of commitment today. Our marriages need men and women of integrity. Our children need godly examples. Our churches need faithful leaders. Our communities need families who are surrendered to the Lord.
The challenge of this message is simple: we cannot lead our families toward God if we are not first surrendered to God ourselves. Before we can build godly homes, we must humble ourselves before the Lord and allow Him to shape our hearts.
A godly home does not happen by accident. It is built through prayer, obedience, repentance, love, humility, and daily faithfulness. Every family has to decide what will be at the center of the home. Will it be comfort? Success? Busyness? Culture? Or will it be Christ?
Joshua’s words still speak today: choose this day whom you will serve.
